Either my hangover has lasted all day or I'm starting to get ill... I suppose I am due to have a cold or similar as I've been quite lucky recently and avoided all the bugs that have been doing the rounds.

Didn't achieve much today, no energy. Clare was working so I took a trip over to my parents with Georgia just to get us out of the house for a while.

I've got an electronic copy of Lord of the Flies, I think I shall retire to bed with the laptop and read some of that.

I know I'm a couple of hours late but who's counting?

It's been a quiet one this year, staying at home and seeing the new year in as a (small) family. My new year celebrations this year are fuelled by Banrock Station, first up was a normal Shiraz and now I'm working my way through a Sparkling Shiraz. It's odd having a chilled sparkling red wine but I think I could probably get used to it.

Clare and Georgia went to bed a couple of hours ago, I'm enjoying Jools Holland on BBC2 (and the rest of the wine), this is relaxation!

One of the things that really shines through from that book (post below this!) is what quality machines the BMW bikes are. The model used was the R1150 GS Adventure and it really was the business. I'm not a fan of Motorcycles specifically, but this machine was designed to travel the world in some of the worst road (or off-road) conditions and it just gets on with it, a bit like a (proper) Landrover.

Having a bit of time off to chill out and be at home has been great, it's nice to have no plans but I'm finding it hard to get totally relaxed. I suppose that relaxation is a skill and I'm a little out of practice! I'm not stressed but I just keep feeling that I should be doing *something*

What I have been doing is a little bit of reading, the latest book has been "The Long Way Round" which was written by Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman to document thir trip around the world on Motorbikes. I finished it today, it was really good and I didn't want it to finish. Travel and adventure writing is really my thing, I'm going to seek some more out...

New on the list of placed to visit "one day" is the Kostnice Ossuary in Sedlec, Czech Republic. You might expect any building decorated with human bones to be a bit morbid, but I think the whole place is quite beautiful. The virtual tour in the site above is worth a look as is this site.

Struggling to get my head around the enormity of the earthquake and resulting tsunami today, I can't quite take it all in.

Xearth shows the magnitude of the quake and it's aftershocks quite graphically.
