	Saturday, October 02, 2004 It's raining outside and quite autuminal, I'm kind of gettting the same effect inside by listening to the B-side player on the Turin Breaks site which is excellent. - Steve, 3:47 PM, The problem with using my work Laptop as the only means of internet access at home is that you get a bit limited as to what you can do with it, I'm not talking about pr0n (well, not exclusively anyway) but all the other stuff like trying different browsers, IM, P2P and heaps of other stuff that work wouldn't really approve of. So, I have set up a dedicated machine in the kitchen that is going to be my main home machine and will stay connected to broadband most of the time. The machine I am using a laptop that has a dubious past, it's not "hot" but it doesn't exist technically... This laptop had Win 98 on it and as you need to have 98SE or higher to use a BT voyager 105 modem I have changed that to XP pro (for now). I had an external CD Writer doing nothing so that's hooked up too. I have changed my browser to Firefox because lots of people reccomend it, so far I think it's great, I have never used anything but IE so I'm still sussing it out (more to come on this later). I'm also using Kazaa , that's proving quite interesting too. I'm having fun! - Steve, 2:11 PM, Thursday, September 30, 2004 I remember some time ago gaekwad avoided keeping up with the news for a while because it was having a negative affect on him, I'm thinking that a break from current affairs and all the bad news that is around would be a good thing right now. Generally I'm a bit of a news addict, I keep up on it in the usual ways; on the internet, radio, TV and in the papers, I can't remember the last time I went all day without checking out one of these sources. It's easy to keep up with the news these days, it's on demand for those that are interested pretty much wherever you are and it's generally not going to contain much "good news". If you have a look at the BBC News site today (or any other day in all probability) you'll see stories of some extreme suffering, I'm feeling immune to it all and that can't be good. - Steve, 5:13 PM, Tuesday, September 28, 2004 Having had the odd run in with dodgy clampers myself in the past this is a good thing. My solution* was to get myself a two foot long set of bolt croppers and "take care of business", even managed to return them to the supplier in "as new" condition for a refund after the job was done. * I wouldn't reccomend it though, some of these blokes are nasty fuckers and, of course, if they do have the legal right to clamp you you'll only get yourself in a whole world of trouble. - Steve, 10:06 PM, Monday, September 27, 2004 I took Georgia to the Library tonight because we didn't make it there at the weekend, she got her usual selection of bedtime stories and I got one for myself... I'm going to read Platform by Michel Houellebecq, I read Atomised earlier in the year and really enjoyed it, I'm hoping this one will be good too. - Steve, 10:48 PM, I've really had a crappy day today, all day long I have been struggling to concentrate and really not getting much done at all, it's so frustrating. I don't know what the problem was, I was working from home and usually I am quite productive when I do that but I just couldn't get it together. I'm hoping that I can make some progress tomorrow, maybe I'll have an ultra productive day to make up for today. Part of my problem is that I really like to work as part of a team, but in my job I work mostly on my own; I'm either at a customers site or I'm working from home. I miss working in a normal office environment with people I really get along well with, somehow it's not the same when I'm the only employee of the company wherever I go. - Steve, 10:40 PM, This is the project I have been working on for the last couple of years. - Steve, 9:28 AM, Sunday, September 26, 2004 My current employer has a load of mugs (coffee type, not other employees) which are printed with their logos and livery, they get given to customers and are handed out with other goodies at exhibitions, this is nothing unusual and I bet your employers do the same. At one point I had a couple of boxes of them to distribute around the offices of the customers I work with as you can never get a mug when you need one, of course I kept a couple to take home with me too. I noticed an odd thing the other day; if I'm working from home and have a cup of coffee I'll only use one of the work mugs, even if I need to wash it up first. Similarly, this morning I brewed a coffee and the only mug in the cupboard was a work one, I couldn't bring myself to use it and washed a different mug to use! - Steve, 11:24 AM,
