	Saturday, September 18, 2004 I'm not a big fan of washing-up, a dishwasher would be great but we just don't have free space in the kitchen big enough for one. It would be much less of a chore if every dirty plate or utensil was washed up as soon as it got dirty, it's would be less of a chore but I can't help feeling that I would be spending most of my life at the kitchen sink. So, it builds up until it's a big job and I'm actually finding that it gives me a good opportunity to have some time to myself undisturbed. Today is a good example, I want to listen to Home Truths but it's just not going to happen in a house inhabited by a boisterous 3 year old and an early 30's wife who refers to Radio 4 as "Nerd FM". I managed to shut myself away in the kitchen with the Laptop (I'm using the "Listen Again" feature as I don't fancy housework at 9am) and stretch the washing-up over the whole hour, it was bliss! I know I won't get disturbed as there is always the threat that the "disturber" will be given some housework to do... If there is anything else I fancy listening to I just might be tempted to wash the kitchen floor. - Steve, 1:33 PM, I was quite surprised to see the Oxford Ice Rink listed among the best loved buildings in Britain, I suppose it's easy to take it for granted when you see it all the time. I haven't been inside it for years but the impression I get when passing is that it really needs a good clean up, it's looking a bit shabby now (the masses of Chavs that gather around it don't help). It was designed by Grimshaw Architects, they have a pretty impressive portfolio. The page relating to the Ice Rink is here. - Steve, 1:16 PM, Friday, September 17, 2004 This story about a World War II pillbox being sold at auction caught my eye, I've been to Burgh Island years ago and was fascinated by the way that it's only an Island part of the time (when the tide comes in). I can see the appeal of buying the place, possibly not all that family friendly though, I'll keep dreaming! While looking for pictures of Burgh Island on Google Images I came across this site, some really stunning photography here. - Steve, 1:36 PM, Today is the last "proper" day of my holiday, I don't count the last weekend of a holiday as it's normally spent getting ready to go back to work, either mentally preparing or more practical things like ironing shirts. This week has been really good, we've not done much but I really needed some time away from 'phone calls and emails. I have (on the most part) succeeded in avoiding doing any work all week and I'm feeling happy, relaxed and optimistic. I'll give it until 10am on Monday... One thing we did do was spend an afternoon in Bournemouth building sandcastles and paddling in the sea, it was great and I wish we didn't live quite so far in land. If you're going to be in Bournemouth then the "Bournemouth Eye" is worth having a go on, you get about 500ft high in a tethered balloon and if it's windy it's quite exciting... - Steve, 11:04 AM,
