I have been asked to submit my CV to another company, I think I'll do it too. A fairly senior guy from the company said that he'd heard a rumour that I wasn't happy working for the company I do and he gave me a name to send the CV to. While it's true that I'm far from chuffed with my present employer, I hadn't really thought about leaving.
I've worked in various positions within the same company since 1996, on the whole I've enjoyed my time there. Until early this year I worked at the company headquarters, now I've moved to the Midlands and work in a consultancy role for one of the subsidiary companies, it's less fun and it's even slightly less money. The main reason I took this job was that I was being made redundant from my previous role, the house prices meant that we could afford a much more reasonable sized house up here too.
My only real worry about taking up a position in a new company is that I'm really not sure that I want to stay in this line of work. I find it really boring, I can't remember the last time I felt any sense of achievement either. It just doesn't turn me on.
What else is there though? I work in "Supply Chain Management" it's fairly typical of any office job I imagine. I spend most of the day, and hence most of my life at work, it would be nice to wake up in the morning and look forward to going there.
The only career that I have ever really wanted for myself (except DotCom millionaire) is in the
Police Force. I honestly think that I have the right qualities, attitude and experience to be successful. I think I would be able to give a lot to the position, but also get a whole lot more satisfaction out of it than I do in this job.
If I'm going to go for it then I have a lot of hard work ahead, years of being a sedentary office worker have left me with crap fitness levels and a whole heap of weight to lose. There would also be a substantial pay cut to begin with too, we are already struggling with money as it is. My eyesight is pretty crap too, I know there is a certain unaided level you must achieve to pass the medical, not much short of laser surgery I can do about that one though.
I'm 26 years old at the moment, it's not too late, but I don't have forever to make this decision. If I'm sat here in 10 years time and I'm an unhappy buyer for some crap logistics company, then I'll only have myself to blame.
