My days of painfully slow GSM connections are finally over. For the last 3 years I've been roaming the country (well the bits near the West Coast Main Line) with nothing faster than a 9,600 bps connection through IR on a Nokia 6310i, it's been OK but frustrating at times. The biggest annoyance has been the times when I got half way through downloading something and then the phone rang, if it's important I've had to disconnect and take the call and then start all over again afterwards.
Now though I have an
AirCard 750 on O2 and it should make life much easier. I know it's not that fast in the scheme of things*, but it's the convenience of having a separate data line that will come in handy, especially connecting to
multimap for directions when on the road.
* This Dell laptop has wi-fi built in but it's disabled due to "company policy", I'm sure we would all be using slates and chalk if they had their way.
