One of the things that really shines through from that book (post below this!) is what quality machines the BMW bikes are. The model used was the R1150 GS Adventure and it really was the business. I'm not a fan of Motorcycles specifically, but this machine was designed to travel the world in some of the worst road (or off-road) conditions and it just gets on with it, a bit like a (proper) Landrover.
