This is not the place to go into details, but it involved: A Christmas Party Drunkenness A (minor) assault on my wife by a "colleague" of hers Me dishing out a stern "talking to" on Sunday Afternoon 'nuff said - Steve, 12:05 PM, Wednesday, April 21, 2004 This is really quite good (If you have sound) Via Miss Soap - Steve, 8:46 PM, I’m working from home today and, for once, I’m getting a whole heap of stuff finished, this is a very good thing! The problem I have had in the past with working at home is a profound lack of desk space. I tend to mainly work on my desktop PC when I’m at home and that lives on an Ikea workstation that has a work area only slightly wider than a standard keyboard and mouse. I need to have the laptop close by and a whole heap of paperwork as well as coffee and toast, it’s been a problem. Today I found the answer; I now have a separate “desk” to the right of my workstation, it’s big enough for a laptop and a load of box files, it’s portable, it is completely height adjustable and to top it all it even has a built in metal coaster at one end for a pot of coffee to live on! The thing that appeals most to me about the site is that it gives some of the background/history of the buildings and places, have a look for yourself when you get some time. - Steve, 9:52 AM, Tuesday, April 20, 2004 I'm thinking of signing up with something like Mapaphone to track the movements of my own mobile. The way I see it is a cheaper version of an in-car GPS route finder. I can get internet access in the car through a Bluetooth or Infrared connection to my phone, so I can use the standard internet based route finders (I often do when I'm on the road) plus I'll be able to find out where I am at that particular point in time by viewing the map on their Website . The problem with (Road) maps alone is that that they are of little use if you don't actually know where you are. Last week I had to negotiate the countryside of Cheshire and Staffordshire because of a rather large spillage on the M6, I got completely lost because I didn't know where I was, my journey home from work took 4 hours! This is the third time it has suffered a serious (as in not switching on at all, or going up in smoke) problem in the last two years, mine isn’t the only one that has been having problems so I’m thinking that the company did a dodgy deal and got a batch cheap! Anyway, my employers have seen the light and have decided not to bother repairing it this time, they have ordered me a new one from Dell. I say "trying" but to my credit it does actually work ok, I'm new to networking, a true network virgin. First thing to do was to buy an Ethernet card for the desktop PC, that's the easy bit. Installing the card was also a doddle and connecting the laptop and the desktop together should have been easy too. My trouble (and I did have a bit) was that I didn't realise I needed a Crossover Lead, rather than the patch lead that came in the box (I'm not using a Router or a Switch, purely connecting the two machines together) took a little bit of Googleing to get to the bottom of it. So it's working now, I'm typing this on the laptop while Georgia is playing games on Cbeebies on the desktop. The whole point of the exercise was to allow the laptop to share the Broadband connection, I can't install the DSL modem on the laptop as it has Windows 98 on it (if it was mine I'd upgrade). I can now share the connection and, more importantly, I can use the VPN client on the laptop while sat at home... - Steve, 7:39 PM,
