I asked Georgia what she would like to do this afternoon, her reply was “feed ducks and jump in puddles” It sounded pretty good to me, so that is exactly what we spent the afternoon doing. If you are on the look-out for Ducks, Swans and huge puddles in the Oxford area then you really want to get yourself to Port Meadow. The place is normally flooded for most of the year (it is a flood plain after all...) so you have a good chance of seeing some pretty impressive bird life, I’m no Ornithologist but even I can appreciate the diversity of the place.
We spend about an hour and a half there, taking in Port Meadow and some of the Thames tow path. The weather was just right, occasional sunshine and about 12 degrees. The extra hour of daylight made the whole thing possible, it feels like it has been Winter for as long as I can remember, I’ve been looking forward to spending time outdoors after crap days at work and it’s almost that time.

So, my advice to you if you want a cheap relaxing day out in Oxford is this*:
Go to Borders, browse and drink Mocha.
Wander up to Little Clarendon Street, browse a bit more.
Wander up Walton Street, have a pint or two en route.
Walk through Port Meadow, relax for a while beside the Thames
Get home and prepare for the Hell that is Monday morning.

*This isn’t what we did, it’s what we should have done…
