So it
snowed yesterday for about an hour in total but it was pretty heavy and seemed to cause quite a lot of disruption round our way (North Oxfordshire). Fortunately I was "working from home" yesterday because I've got a cold (again), I didn't have to face a 60 mile drive home from the office which is a good job because people were getting stuck on the M40 for hours last night. Instead I went for a wonder with Georgia and threw a few snowballs, she's been desperate to play in the snow for ages and despite the Artic like wind-chill it was quite a good laugh.
When it's 10.30pm, your child is asleep, your wife is watching
"I'm a Celebrity, get me out of here!" and the temperature outside is minus 2.5 degrees Centigrade, what are you supposed to do? Well, obviously, you jump in your
car (preferably a company car...) and thrash it around a deserted car-park like you were 17 again! It's rude not to.
After my (highly scientific) tests I can report that the traction control and "Electronic Stability Program" used in the later VW's does a great job of keeping you on the road in adverse weather, I can also report that you will have much more fun if you switch them both off.
I also noticed that drivers of 4x4's seem to think that they can go faster than normal cars in snow and ice, this is probably very true but they can't stop any quicker than the rest of us and that point was well illustrated by the driver of a
Volvo Cross-Country, in a field, about 100yds from the A41.
