We bought Georgia a colouring book at some crayons at the weekend, she loves drawing and painting and she has just grasped the concept of colouring stuff in, trying her hardest to stay between the lines, I think it’s pretty impressive for a two year old but I suppose all parents feel that way about their children.
Anyway…Colouring! I had forgotten just how much fun colouring books are! I spent some time helping Georgia colour in the pictures, but when she got bored and wandered off I couldn’t tear myself away. I spent ages colouring-in all (well not all, I left her some) pictures, it was so relaxing!
I have never been any good at art; I really can’t draw or paint. I can remember watching “Cartoon Time” with
Rolf Harris when I was younger, I was always impressed and I could never “tell what it is yet”. These days I have outgrown cartoons (honest) but you can still find me in a similar state of awe watching “The joy of painting” with
Bob Ross (It’s on one of the digital channels in the UK). This guy starts off with a blank page (I assume this is standard practice with artists?) and in about 25 minutes he produces a snow-scene or a seascape that looks as if it could be a photograph. Each time I watch the show he’ll have a pretty perfect looking picture and then add a massive blob of paint right in the middle of the paper, totally messing it up, but with a couple strokes from a thing that looks like a knife (I’m sure it’s not a brush) it turns into a perfect snow covered spruce in the foreground of the picture!
I would love to be able to paint, but I just don’t believe it is something you can learn, like working out percentages; you can either do it or you can’t. For now I’m going to stick with the Happy Heifer colouring books, the end result is almost the same and I still get the relaxing feeling, just don’t tell anyone eh?
