I don't understand motorways in this country, or to be more specific, the numbering system used to identify them.
In the last couple of days I have driven on the M1, M6, M38, M40, M42, M54 and the M69. I know that the M1 was the first motorway to be opened way back in the sixties, so did they number them in the order they were built? If this is the case, where is the M7? and how come there is an M602 up near Manchester, are there really over 600 motorways in this country?

"A roads" are worse. For a little while I lived in Oxford and Worked in Crewe (Cheshire), on the drive to Crewe I passed the A34 at Oxford, the A34 at Birmingham and the A34 in Staffordshire! all separate roads that are not linked to each other (as far as I know)

I need to consult Google
