According to
Treehugger; the most
immediately effective thing a
Treehugger can do is to
drive at the speed limit.
I think this is probably very true. This week I have been driving at, or below, the speed-limit for whichever road I'm travelling on and I still have fuel left in the tank on a Friday.
I've managed to get over 40mpg this week which is better than the 33
ish mpg I've been getting over the last few months.
The main reason for going slower than normal is that I had a puncture this week and I still have the space saver wheel on.
Kwik Fit have so far been unable to get hold of the tyres I need (they are an odd size, 17" and quite low profile) so I've been sticking to a max speed of 50-60mph.
Another reason is trying to save a bit of cash, it's a life-long quest and ever little helps.
The last reason (not really a reason) is that I haven't been giving a lift to the chap I normally take to the office, so I haven't had to worry about increased journey times having an effect on him.
So, in summary; driving slower is jolly good all round, it's not as boring as I thought it would be and it leaves me more cash to spend on cheap red wine.
